Let’s get you
connected.
Setup and troubleshooting for your remote computers.
Connect for the first time
- Enable screen sharing or a compatible VNC server on the computer you want to control. Make sure you have permission to access it.
- Connect your iPhone or iPad to a network that can reach that computer. Allow Local Network access when BlueVNC asks if you want nearby discovery.
- Choose a computer in the list, or use the direct-connect button and enter its IP address or hostname. Include a port when it differs from the server’s default.
- For a Mac account, enter its username and password. For a server that uses a VNC password, leave the username empty and enter the VNC password.
- Connect. Use the session’s controls for the keyboard, clipboard, display options and closing the connection.
Common questions
How do I connect to a VNC server protected by TLS?
Enter vncs://hostname:port in the direct-connect address. The server must provide a valid TLS certificate for that hostname. BlueVNC checks the certificate and will not fall back to an unencrypted connection. Use vnc://hostname:port for a standard VNC server on a trusted network or VPN.
Why is my computer missing from the list?
The list starts with online computers. Switch to All to see saved computers that are currently offline, and check the source filter. A computer must advertise its VNC service to appear through local discovery. You can always enter its address directly. Check Local Network permission for BlueVNC in iOS Settings.
My computer appears, but the connection fails.
Check that the VNC server is running, the address and port are correct, and the computer’s firewall permits your connection. Verify the username and password. A Tailscale device being online does not necessarily mean its VNC server is running.
How do I use Tailscale discovery?
Open BlueVNC Settings, enable Tailscale discovery, and enter a Tailnet ID plus either an API token or OAuth client credentials with permission to read devices. You can use - for a token’s own tailnet. BlueVNC requests the device list from Tailscale. Install and connect the separate Tailscale app when you need its network access.
Where are my passwords stored?
New saved passwords and Tailscale credentials are stored in the Apple Keychain. Computer names, addresses and usernames are stored in the app’s local library. Previously saved connections and credential references are retained when updating.
Does BlueVNC provide a computer or a VNC server?
No. BlueVNC connects to computers that you configure and can already reach. Remote access depends on your server and network settings. Use a trusted network or a properly configured VPN when accessing a remote computer.
Can I connect without a BlueVNC account?
Yes. Direct VNC connections do not require a Picktek or BlueVNC account. Your remote computer may require its own login. Optional third-party services have their own accounts and access requirements.
